Part Time Apprentices Available

As of the 1st August 2025, part time apprenticeships have new flexibilities introduced by the Government. This means an apprentice would work in the salon for 2-3 days per week & 1 day at Michaeljohn Training School.
 
A minimum of 7 hours OTJ per week must be completed.
 
After a duration of 6 months, all parties will review the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours and increase the Apprenticeship hours up to 30 hours per week. The Apprenticeship Agreement and Training Plan will be revised. 
 
Apprentices aged 16-18, employers may be eligible to the £1,000 incentive. 
 
Apprenticeship/National Minimum Wage still applies. 

Hairdressing Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

The Level 2 Hairdressing Professional will ensure that apprentices have developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours in the following duties; client consultation, shampoo and conditioning, blow drying, styling and dressing hair, colouring techniques and hair cutting.

Whilst on the Apprenticeship, you will complete 7 hours a week off the job training (OTJ). The planned duration can be up to 24 months however, the qualification can be completed in less time depending on your progression.

There is a choice of optional units in perming hair and hair relaxing, also an elective unit for hair extensions available.

Your Apprenticeship Assessment (End Point Assessment) which is your final exam has 3 sections to complete;

  1. Knowledge Exam
  2. Professional Discussion (45 minutes)
  3. Practical Exam (5.5 Hours)

Your Apprenticeship Assessment (End Point Assessment) will be carried out by an independent assessor where you will receive your final grade of PASS, MERIT , DISTINCTION or FAIL

Upon achievement, apprentices are welcomed to further progress their skills by studying the Advanced and Creative Hair Professional Level 3.

Barbering Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

The Level 2 Barbering Professional will ensure that apprentices have developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours in the following duties; client consultation, shampoo and conditioning treatments, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish men’s hair, cut facial hair and shaving services.

Whilst on the Apprenticeship, you will complete 7 hours a week off the job training (OTJ). The planned duration can be up to 18 months however, the qualification can be completed in less time depending on your progression.

Your Apprenticeship Assessment (End Point Assessment) which is your final exam has 3 sections to complete;

  1. Knowledge Exam
  2. Professional Discussion (45 minutes)
  3. Practical Exam (3.25 Hours)

Your Apprenticeship Assessment (End Point Assessment) will be carried out by an independent assessor where you will receive your final grade of PASS, MERIT , DISTINCTION or FAIL

Advanced & Creative Hair Professional Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

The Advanced and Creative will ensure that apprentices have developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours in the following duties; client consultation, creatively restyle hair, creatively style and dress hair, creative hair colour correction and smoothing and strengthening system. You will also create a collection looks using fashion forward trends.

Whilst on the Apprenticeship, you will complete 7 hours a week off the job training (OTJ). The planned duration can be up 18 months however, the qualification can be completed in less time depending on your progression.

Your Apprenticeship Assessment (End Point Assessment) which is your final exam has 3 sections to complete;

  1. Knowledge Exam
  2. Professional Discussion/Portfolio Showcase (45 minutes)
  3. Practical Exam (5 Hours)
